"Moke" in Hawaiian is slang for redneck. Obviously, "local" means someone that is from the islands. There is a large Japanese population (as well as many other nationalities!), in Hawaii hence the Japanese characters on the shirt. I was born in Japan and take great care to try to use authentic Japanese characters on my shirts. The greatest compliment I ever received in Hawaii was when I was referred to as a local!
